Newcastle University- Alumni Vacation 2009

Travel with compatible companions

The Newcastle University Alumni Relations Office has teamed up with IMA to create a special tour for its members. The tour is designed to be educational and entertaining for like-minded travellers. It's a tried and tested cruise along the coast of Aegean Turkey, coupled with a visit to Troy and Istanbul. Bodily relaxation and metal stimulation are the aims of the tour.

Accompanying specialist

Jeremy Paterson has been at Newcastle University since 1972 and is Senior Lecturer in Ancient History. He studies the Ancient Wine Trade, Roman politics, and early Christianity. He broadcasts regularly about the Greek and Roman World and knows all the sites we are visiting very well.

Jerry says:-

‘From the Ottoman grandeur of Istanbul to the hidden gems of Euromus and Labranda this trip is difficult to beat. And what could be better than to see it in the congenial company of Newcastle alumni.’

And, its a really lovely time of the year, with loads of swimming!

Breathing New Life into the Trojan Horse : June 2009

Our cruise concentrates on the Classical sites which enrich Asia Minor’s beautiful shores as we consider the archaeology of this cultural hinge of the ancient world. Great figures from the past like Herodotus, Mausolus, Alexander, Lysimachus, Trajan and Hadrian a haunt the columned splendour of these Graeco-Roman cities along the Turquoise Coast.
