Alexander's Path - Classical Cruise in Lycia & Pamphylia : 4-11 July 2009

The Sunken City on the Island of Kekova

Bristol University & Ancient Lycia

This one-week cruise is full of theatres, tombs and the beautiful Taurus Mountains which in Lycia rise from the sea to heights of over 10,000 feet. Designed and accompanied by Bristol University’s Dr Tamar Hodos, Senior Lecturer, Department of Archaeology & Anthropology, this itinerary is a stunning mix of fascinating ancient sites and outstanding scenery.

Highlands & Islands

The sea passage has changed little in appearance over the last few thousand years, with dramatic peaks and deep-set wooded inlets seen from the coast making this a spectacular route.  The area has wonderful classical cities like Xanthos, Letoon and Patara which feature widely in the history of the eastern Mediterranean.  The pretty coastal towns of Kaş and Kalkan are littered with Lycian remains and their quaint cobbled streets are lined with small craft and silverware stores, tavernas and carpet shops.

Adventure & Relaxation

Other lovely places include Kekova, probably the most beautiful part of the Mediterranean, with a host of islands making it a water wonderland.  As always, we use classic Turkish yachts fitted with all modern conveniences – private bathrooms with every cabin, chefs to prepare excellent Turkish cuisine and stewards to wait on your every need.  For those who enjoy the cruising life there is plenty of relaxation and swimming and the daily explorations ashore can be gentle or adventurous as you wish.
