Karamania – Ancient Lycia
This cruise is full of theatres, tombs and the beautiful
Taurus Mountains which in Lycia rise from the sea to heights
of over 10,000 feet. It's one of our most popular itineraries
because of the ancient sites and the outstanding scenery and
follows in the wake of Francis Beaufort who wrote the Karamania
in 1815, and Sir Charles Fellows.
Classical cities
Because of the spectacular mountain backdrop the sea passage
has changed little in appearance over the last few thousand
years, with dramatic peaks and deep-set wooded inlets . The
area has wonderful Classical cities like Xanthos, Phaselis
and Myra.
Highlands and islands
Among the gems is the beautiful mountain city of Arykanda,
in the alpine-like valleys behind Phoenix (Finike). There
are also rare sites like Cadyanda and Pinara high among the
Akdag Mountains.Other lovely places include Kekova, probably
the most beautiful part of the Mediterranean, its islands
and inlets like a water wonderland.
And the relaxation too
For those who enjoy the cruising life there is also plenty
of relaxation and swimming. We shall use our own classic yachts
for this cruise which over the years have gained so much popularity
with our Oxford travellers
