Byzantine monks
A whimsical landscape of pink and white “fairy
chimneys”, vast pinnacles of eroded volcanic ash,
Cappadocia is the heart of Anatolia. It was the centre
of a late Byzantine community and today preserves some
of the finest Byzantine frescoes in Turkey – no
fewer than 350 churches and monasteries hewn out of
the tuff, painted in vibrant colours.
Classical Pisidia
Among magnificent lakeland and mountain scenery to
the west lies ancient Pisidia. Under Phrygian and Lydian
cultural impulses this area developed into a regional
centre. Key among it’s ancient sites is the ruggedly
haunting Sagalassos
Carian Cruise
Descending to the coast, our tour cruises the shores
of ancient Caria. A highlight is a visit to Caunos at
the head of the reedy Dalyan river and famous for its
rock-cut royal tombs. The enigmatic shore fort at Loryma
guards the once mighty Rhodian Perea.
Super scenery
Our new itinerary cruises these azure waters and includes
a number of exquisite walks across pine-clad mountains,
the scenery and sea views only surpassed by the magnificence
of the ruined cities. And plenty of swimming for the
energetic.
