Cruising to Ephesus - Turkey's Turquoise Shores: 14-28 June 2008

As part of Sheffield University's Alumni Travel Programme, IMA has organised a private cruise in Aegean Turkey. The focus of the cruise will be the Classical sites which enrich Asia Minor’s beautiful shores, studying the archaeology and history of this cultural hinge of the ancient world.

The Romance of Ruins

Great figures from the past like Herodotus, Mausolus, Alexander, Lysimachus, Trajan, Hadrian and many others haunt the columned splendour of these Graeco-Roman cities. Ephesus, Miletus, Halicarnassus and Knidos were all built on the wealth of maritime trade. What more suitable way to appreciate their classical story than visiting them by sea?

Sail the Aegean in private comfort

We have our own classic yachts for our journey. Built in Halicarnassus to a Byzantine design, they are fitted with all modern conveniences – private bathrooms with each double or twin cabin; our own personal chefs to prepare the excellent Turkish cuisine; our own stewards to wait on our every need. It’s a perfect way to relax, to learn together and to absorb the ambience of that greatness of the past.

Accompanying Sheffield Scholar

Paul Halstead has a BA and PhD in Archaeology from Cambridge and has taught archaeology at Sheffield since 1984. The author of over 100 papers and editor of five books, his principal research interests are Aegean prehistory and Mediterranean farming and landscape.
